Championship Contenders

These squads have the star power, the depth, and the momentum to make a legit title push. When the calendar flips to playoff time, these are the teams everyone wants to avoid.

The NBA's middle class — too good to tank, not good enough to contend. These teams will fight for every seed.

    Nate Thurmond is a rebounding machine at 14.6 boards per game. But stats don't win championships, and Atlanta needs more around him.
  2. Vancouver Grizzlies — RECORD: Muggsy's magic
    The little big man is dropping 10.6 assists per game and making everyone around him better. Vancouver is overachieving.

Full tank mode. These franchises are playing for lottery balls and future glory. The future's bright, but the present is...rough.

    Losers of TWO straight — including that 37-point humiliation in Toronto. The Celtics are in full crisis mode. Something's broken, and it needs fixing fast.

  3. Indiana Pacers — RECORD: Struggling
    Just lost to Orlando by 17. The Pacers need a spark, and they need it yesterday.
